Alice Cowan

I paint realistic watercolors of familiar things and particularly like old, worn, chipped, mended or repurposed things. Watercolor paintings glow; pools of wet paint dry with luminosity. Watercolor paint demands directness. All my paintings begin with loose, bold, rough washes over careful pencil drawings. Even though I plan my paintings, watercolor has a mind of its own and every picture is an adventure.
